MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

NARRATIVE 

PearlArts is a dynamic small arts organization experiencing exciting growth and development. In 2024, we moved into our home in the newly developed Braddock Arts and Media Building, underwent an exciting rebrand, and in 2025 we’ll welcome our first full-time dedicated marketing role—will it be you?

We’re looking for someone who can grow our social media following, tell compelling, newsworthy stories about our organization, events, and programs, and keep our branding clear and consistent across all communication platforms. If you love communication planning, digital marketing and design, and the arts, we’d love for you to apply. Because this position is new to the organization, we’ll support this in-person, full-time role with fresh branding guidelines and professional development coaching from Workhorse Collaborative to help you grow with us.

SALARY & BENEFITS

This is a full-time salaried in-person position starting at $40,000 annually. Expected hours of work 40/week. This role will receive 20 days of paid time off throughout the year and access to up to $300/month in Healthcare Reimbursements via our Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Account (QSEHRA). You’ll also get the chance to deeply affect culture and drive performance at one of the most innovative arts nonprofits in the city.

In addition to complimentary tickets to all local PearlArts performances, you'll receive professional development coaching from Workhorse Collaborative to help you grow as an arts marketer.

If you’re a dog person, you’re in luck! Our unofficial mascot and executive director’s personal pup, 5-pound B’laké, is in and out of the office throughout the work week.

SCHEDULE

Administrative working hours are 10:00am - 6:00pm on Mondays - Fridays, with the ability to flex time for occasional required weekends and/or evenings for performances. This is an in-person position at our new studios at 818 Braddock Ave, in the brand-new Braddock Arts & Media Building. Employees are able to work from home as needed, decided on a case-by-case basis. All PearlArts team members are vaccinated against COVID-19. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing

  • Work closely with General Manager to build,  implement and manage marketing calendar; plan and organize all communication efforts and ensure PearlArts programs, classes, performances, residencies, and special events are promoted effectively

  • Work with the General Manager to ensure press & social media coverage of all PearlArts events. (This job requires some evening and weekend hours with the opportunity to flex your schedule)

  • Develop and implement comprehensive outreach strategies to engage a diverse range of stakeholders, including community members, partner organizations, and patrons

  • Maintain and update the PearlArts (Squarespace) website

  • Assist with the development and implementation of marketing campaigns to promote PearlArts’ events, programs, and fundraising initiatives

  • Create compelling content and manage PearlArts’ social media presence, including scheduling posts via Meta Business, responding to comments and messages, and tracking analytics to measure engagement and impact

  • Draft and distribute press releases and cultivate relationships with local media outlets and journalists to secure coverage for PearlArts and our programming

  • Track and report on outreach and communication activities, including metrics such as website traffic, social media engagement, and media mentions

  • Collaborate with General Manager and outside contractors to develop and design communication materials, including digital graphics, posters, postcards, and other assets to support promotional and fundraising efforts

  • Ensure all PearlArts digital and print collateral meets organizational standards of visual engagement, consistency, and alignment with PearlArts’s established brand identity

  • Work closely with General Manager and Executive Team on visuals and copy edits for donor and stakeholder communications

  • Support administrative duties as it relates to day-to-day marketing and office operations

REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging and the willingness to prioritize and foster a commitment to valuing differences of race, ethnicity, age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, and socio-economic circumstances

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in marketing and public relations, preferably at a nonprofit arts organization

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to represent the PearlArts organization to community groups, renters, patrons, donors, and volunteers

  • Experience managing project workflows and meeting deadlines

  • Excellent writing and copywriting skills toward producing written content to support visual storytelling

  • Working knowledge of current social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram

  • Fluency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of current social media and email platforms, including Meta Business Suite, and Mailchimp

  • Working knowledge of iMacs & Apple products

  • Creativity & the ability to collaborate on larger campaigns and initiatives

  • Working knowledge of Squarespace, experience creating designs in Canva, and skills with photo and video editing are a plus

Note: We are looking for someone who has experience in most of the knowledge areas mentioned above, but most importantly, someone who is an excellent writer, has an eye for detail, and is able to learn quickly and manage their own deadlines.
